The Chairperson of Carrick-on-Shannon Chamber of Commerce says the redevelopment of the MBNA site in the town will present great opportunities.
The council intends to buy the site and redevelop it for small to medium enterprises with a view to creating up to 500 more jobs on the site in the coming years.
Funding of over €7 million was announced for the project under the Rural Regeneration Development fund yesterday , with the entire scheme set to cost up to €9 million euro.
Colm McGrath says there's already a lack of office space in the county town, and the councils' project will answer that demand.
''The building itself, the way it's set up at the moment is for large organisations so with a bit of tweaking from the Council, which is their intended investment in it, it'll allow smaller companies to utilize or rent office space within there, and there is a massive lack of office space within the town for smaller company so it makes absolute sense and it's a brilliant opportunity.''
