It will take over €130,000 to develop a piece of land as a car park in Granard - but that funding is not currently available.
The July meeting of the north Longford municipal district was told that the local authority had recently purchased land from the OPW at the rear of the Garda station.
However, senior engineer David Coppinger explained to the meeting that the Council was not in a position to proceed with the car park plans at present at the site as no funding was available for the works.
Councillor PJ O'Reilly suggested that additional car parking space could be provided if the local authority was to purchase the site of a former hotel in the town, or space at the soon to close bank Of Ireland building.
The Fianna Fail representatives says it is unusual that the Council now own land but can't progress any plans for it :
