Funeral arrangements confirmed for much-loved Strokestown resident who died from MND

Nicola Murphy (née Brennan), who lived in Gortlustia, Scramogue, died on Friday at the age of 45.

Funeral arrangements have been made for the much-loved Strokestown resident who died from motor neurone disease.

Nicola Murphy (née Brennan), who lived in Gortlustia, Scramogue, died on Friday at the age of 45.

The Ahascragh native passed away peacefully in Roscommon Hospice.

Her husband is Joe Murphy, a former Roscommon county councillor, and they have two sons, Conor and Óisin.

Nicola was diagnosed with MND in September 2023, and a fundraising appeal raised over €83,000 to assist with her care.

Her remains will repose at her home on Saturday and Sunday from 4pm to 8pm. Her funeral Mass will take place on Monday in St Anne's Church, Scramogue, at 11am, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Local councillor Sean Moylan is paying tribute.
