The funeral of CervicalCheck campaigner Lynsey Bennett is taking place today.
The 34-year-old died last Thursday after a five-year battle with cervical cancer.
The Longford woman was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2017 and is survived by her two daughters Zoe and Hailee, and her father Coote.Lynsey Bennett was diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer in 2017, following the alleged misinterpretation of smear slides.
Due to the delay in diagnosing it, she sued the HSE and the US lab that analysed her slide - claiming it was allowed to grow and spread without detection.
She ultimately settled for an undisclosed sum - a settlement she said she hoped would free her two daughters, Zoe and Hayley, from financial worries.
In a statement to waiting media outside the Four Courts, she said that she hoped she had done enough to secure her children a future free of financial worries.
She died peacefully at home last Thursday, surrounded by her family and friends
Her funeral takes place in St John's Church, Battery Road, in Longford town at 12 noon, with burial afterwards in the adjoining churchyard.
Her family have asked that donations be made, if desired, to Longford Hospice and LARCC Centre.
