The funeral of west Roscommon councillor Anthony Waldron is taking place today. There has been widespread shock and sadness since he died suddenly last weekend. Anthony Waldron was a Fianna Fáil councillor between 2004 and 2009. He made a political comeback in 2019, when he was elected as an Independent, and retained his seat last June.
The 64-year-old passed away last Sunday of natural causes - just four months after south Roscommon councillor John Naughten, from Fine Gael, died. Anthony's funeral Mass will take place in St Bride's Church in Ballintubber at 12 noon. He will be buried afterwards with his parents in Aghamore Cemetery, near Ballyhaunis, where he was from. Politicians from Co Roscommon and beyond will be in Ballintubber for today's funeral.
