There have been further calls for extra full-time Garda resources for Ballaghaderreen following a serious assault at the weekend. Gardaí are investigating following reports of an assault that occurred at approximately 4.15 am in the west Roscommon town on Sunday. A man in his 40s and a man in his late teens were taken to Mayo University Hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Local councillor Micheál Frain says extra resources have been deployed to the area in recent weeks as a temporary measure. Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, he says it's hoped visible Garda patrols of Ballaghaderreen become the norm:
