A former well known Psychiatric Hospital in Mullingar is not capable of supporting new mental health services.
That's according to HSE representatives following a question on the use of the derelict St. Loman's Hospital at this month's Dublin Mid-Leinster health forum.
The historic building was vacated in 2013 when the last remaining services were transferred to a new campus.
In a motion submitted to the meeting, Westmeath County Councillor Hazel Smyth called for an update of the use of the site.
Responding to the green councillor, HSE representatives say the current condition of the building and it's deterioration over the past decade currently means it is not suitable for housing mental health services.
The Health Service state they are currently examining uses for the facility moving forward.
