The GAA are hoping the 2021 Allianz Leagues can be staged despite the delay to the inter-county season.
It was announced last night that, there will be no matches or training until Easter as inter-county Gaelic games lost their covid-19 level-5 restrictions.
The All-Ireland final was due to be played in July, meaning the remainder of the year was scheduled for club activity, now the GAA are set to redraw their fixture schedule, calling into doubt the viability of the Allianz League proceeding.
“For obvious reasons we’re a games organisation, we don’t want to kill off competitions” explained GAA Director of Communications Alan Milton when asked if the Allianz League would proceed.
“It’s an important competition” added Milton, “it would also have an impact on the Tailteann cup competition, which is the second tier competition, and we certainly hope we don’t have to go there”.
