Gardai are appealing for witnesses after a young teenager was killed when the tractor he was driving overturned in Co. Mayo.
There's widespread shock in Claremorris after the incident on Saturday evening.
The 13 year old boy was treated at the scene in Scarduane for serious injuries and then taken to Galway University Hospital, however he was later transferred to Temple St. Children's Hospital in Dublin.
Amy Forde, Deputy News Editor with the Farmers Journal, says the child passed away there yesterday:
'Shortly after 8.15 on Saturday evening, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted after a tractor overturned on a local road near Claremorris in the County.
Gardaí said the driver and sole occupant of the tractor was a 13 year old boy, he was treated at the scene for serious injuries and removed to Galway University Hospital.
He was subsequently transferred to Temple Street in Dublin where he sadly passed away.'
