The implementation of changes in garda operations across the country will free gardai up to work more on crime issues.

That's according to Longford Roscommon Chief Superintendent Tony Healy who says the division has recently been given the go-ahead to move to the business services model of the new plan for policing.

He says this means that gardai won't have to be directly involved in as much administration work and they will have more time to work in the community.

The Chief Superintendent says the fact that the administration will also be more centralised should make the service more efficient.
