A 44-year-old man accused of murdering Detective Garda Colm Horkan will go on trial at the Central Criminal Court in June next year.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris will visit Castlerea this weekend to take part in a commemoration event to mark the 1st anniversary of the death of Detective Garda Colm Horkan.

The 50 year old officer became the 89th member of the Garda Siochana to be killed in the line of duty when he was shot dead near the garda station in the town shortly before midnight on the 17th of June last year.

An anniversary mass is being held in Charlestown this Thursday and it will be streamed live as numbers will be restricted due to Covid.
