Garda forensic investigators are carrying out an examination at the home of Leitrim man Liam Farrell tonight, after reports of blood found in his shed.
The 87-year-old died almost five years ago, and his family believes he was violently attacked.
Liam Farrell died at the back doorstep of his house in Rooskey in January 2020.
An inquest in Carrick-on-Shannon recently delivered an open verdict – meaning the jury couldn’t be certain of the cause and circumstances of his death.
The Farrell family appointed former state pathologist for Northern Ireland Professor, Jack Crane, to review the autopsy.
He told the inquest it was his opinion Liam was confronted by an intruder outside of his home and he was struck in the face before he died.
There was a development in the case last night, when a person said they discovered blood in a shed at the back of Liam’s house.
This led to garda forensic specialists arriving at the scene around 5.30pm today and carrying out a detailed examination. They left almost eight hours later.
