Garda investigation into suspended Ballaghaderreen solicitor remains open

Yesterday, the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal recommended Declan O'Callaghan be struck off the roll of solicitors over professional misconduct.

A Garda investigation into a suspended Roscommon solicitor and his former Ballaghaderreen law firm remains open.

Yesterday, the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal recommended Declan O'Callaghan be struck off the roll of solicitors over professional misconduct.

Mr O’Callaghan was found guilty of professional misconduct over his handling of the sale of lands in Co Mayo in 2007.

The gardai have been investigating separate matters relating O'Callaghan and his former firm, which first emerged in 2018.

Legal affairs editor with the Irish Independent, Shane Phelan, has an update on this investigation.

Mr Phelan says the Law Society found there were deficits in his firm's client account back in 2018.
