Garda issue appeal as Longford shooting victim now stable

Gardai have issued an appeal for information after a 73-year-old man was shot in Longford town last night.

It happened in the Springlawn estate shortly before 8 o'clock, when shots were fired through the window of a house.

The victim was shot in both arms and is being treated in Mullingar Hospital, but he is now in a stable condition.

Gardai are looking to speak to anyone who was in the Springlawn area at the time and any road users who may have video footage.

Local Fianna Fáil councillor Seamus Butler says he fears it will lead to tit-for-tat violence.
