Gardaí are searching for a number of men believed to have been involved in an attempted burglary in Roscommon Town this evening.
A member of the public notified Gardaí of a suspicious vehicle with a number of men on board in the Hawthorn Drive/ Woodview area of the town at 5.40pm.
The occupants of the car subsequently attempted to break into a nearby residence but were disturbed and left the scene in a black VW Golf.
On being notified, Roscommon Gardaí dispatched a patrol car that encountered the vehicle where the suspects attempted to ram the patrol car before fleeing at speed towards Athlone.
An extensive search of the area by Gardaí did not locate the vehicle or it's occupants.
Roscommon Gardaí are now appealing for CCTV or dash cam footage from residents or motorists in the Woodview/Hawthorn Drive area or on the N61.
