Garda Stations will only open between the hours of 9 to 5 under the new operating model for An Garda Siochana.
That's what emerged at the most recent meeting of Longford Joint Policing Committee.
Granard Superintendent Seamus Boyle was responding to a question about the opening hours of Edgeworthstown Garda Station once work on its refurbishment is complete.
He said the hours will stay the same as they are currently initially, but down the line under the new national operating model, the opening hours of all stations will be reduced.
Superintendent Boyle said the plan is that civilians will be operating the public office during regular opening hours and that while there will be Gardaí attached to stations, stations will not be as open to the public as they are at present.
The new policing plan was unveiled by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris last year with different phases being rolled out in stages.
