Local Gardaí are warning of the danger of speed on our roads after two high speed detections in the region over the weekend.
The St. Patrick's Bank Holiday weekend policing operation began on Thursday, and ended this morning.
It saw more than 200 people arrested for drink or drug driving, 285 motorists caught using phones while behind the wheel, and 62 people fined for not wearing seatbelts.
On the M6 near Ballinasloe, one motorist was clocked at 40 kilometres over the limit, driving at 161kph.
The driver was fined and will face a court date in the future.
Meanwhile in Carrick on Shannon, Gardaí stopped a motorist travelling almost double the speed limit at 98kph in a 60 zone.
Two people died on the country's roads and there were seven serious crashes over the St Patrick's Weekend.
