Gardai are urging people to have their dogs microchipped as they are carrying out checks to try and discover pets which may have been stolen.
Local dog wardens are engaging with gardaí at checkpoints across the region as the reports of stolen dogs have increased during the pandemic.
Earlier this week a dog called Toby, which was reported missing in March, was recovered by Gardai in Roscommon following searches in Ballinasloe.
