Gardai in Leitrim have confirmed that a number of breaches of Covid travel rules have been detected ahead of a large funeral planned to take place in Carrick-on-Shannon tomorrow.
Checkpoints had been set up on the N4 and in the town itself ahead of the funeral.
Locals had expressed concern that a number of vehicles and individuals who are not based in the town had been seen arriving into carrick throughout the day ahead of the removal and mass which is to take place this evening (Wed) and Thursday morning.
Gardai have confirmed to Shannonside FM they aware of a funeral that is to take place in Carrick-on-Shannon Co. Leitrim on March 10 and 11, 2021 and a number of breaches of the regulations in respect of travel have been detected.
An Garda Síochána has no comment in respect of potential events which may or may not occur.
The Health Act 1947 (Section 31A-Temporary Restrictions) (Covid-19) (No.10) Regulations 2020 are currently in force.
This places certain restrictions on individuals organising relevant events outdoors and on travel outside the home except with reasonable excuse.

Where Gardaí find potential breaches of the public health regulations a file is prepared for the DPP or a Fixed Payment Notice is issued where appropriate.
Personal social responsibility, wearing of face coverings in open spaces and social distancing are public health guidelines and are not penal regulations.
