Gardaí in Westmeath were forced to abandon a car chase on Sunday morning due to public safety fears.
Local Gardaí conducting speed checks on the N4 recorded a vehicle driving at 184 kilometres an hour in a 100km zone.
The car failed to stop when prompted and was pursued by Gardaí, where it then began to drive against traffic in the opposite lane.
Gardaí were forced to stand down 'in the interest of all public safety' and other road users according to a spokesperson.
It's now been confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen in Blanchardstown last Wednesday, the 21st of February
Gardaí have now appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and for anyone with dash cam footage to contact Gardaí in Mullingar.
