Gardaí in Athlone are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary over the weekend.
Shortly after 6pm on Friday the 9th of September, two individuals entered a premises on Cartron Drive in the town.
A man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s were assaulted and a sum of cash was taken during the course of this incident, with the man receiving medical treatment at the scene.
A technical examination of the scene has been conducted by Gardaí and investigations are currently ongoing.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Retreat Road or Cartron Drive estate area of Athlone between 5:00pm and 6:30pm on Friday to contact them.
Anyone driving through the area with dash cam footage is also asked to make it available to local Gardaí.
It's the second such incident in a week in the town, after a man was assaulted during a robbery in Ballykeeran, Athlone on Friday the 3rd of September.
