Gardaí are investigating the circumstances behind two deaths, in separate incidents, in Laois and Kildare.
A woman in her 30s died in a suspected assault in Mountmellick yesterday evening, while the body of a man in his 40s was also found in Newbridge.
Two separate investigations have been launched following the discovery of the bodies yesterday.
Emergency services found a woman with serious injuries at a home in Mountmellick at about 4.45 in evening.
The woman, aged in her 30s, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 30s has since been arrested and brought to Portlaoise Garda Station, where he can be detained for 24 hours.
Separately, a woman in her 30s presented herself to Newbridge Garda Station in the early hours of yesterday morning, following an alleged assault.
She was treated for her injuries - which are not believed to be life-threatening - at Naas General Hospital.
Gardaí subsequently attended a home in the Newbridge area - the location of the alleged assault - and found the body of a man in his 40s.
Post-mortem examinations are to be carried out on both bodies today and gardaí say the results will determine the course of both investigations.
