Gardaí in the Shannonside Northern Sound region are warning people to be aware of a fraudulent text scam that criminals are using to access people's bank accounts.
People have been receiving text messages starting with the letters IE UPS stating that a parcel that is due for delivery has been delayed due to an unpaid customs duty.
People are being asked to release their package by entering their bank details to pay a small fee, usually less than 2 euro, on a website that opens from a link in the text message.
However, Sgt Lionel Mullally of Longford Gardaí is urging people not to enter any bank details saying it's a complete scam.
