Gardai in Leitrim have recorded a 50% drop in the number of public order offences reported in the last 12 months.
The county's Joint Policing Committee has been told that the Covid pandemic has also resulted in a reduction in drunkenness offences by 89%.
Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken outlined that crime across the county has significantly decreased in the last 12 months across a number of key categories.
The Garda chief claimed that the Covid pandemic was a key factor in the overall reduction of crime - with incidents of burglary down 18% and thefts from shops down almost 40%.
Criminal damage incidents were also down by almost half year-on-year - while assault cases have also halved in the last 12 months.
The Sligo-based Garda Chif Superintendent claimed that the lack of a night-time economy, especially in Carrick on Shannon, was a significant factor in the reduction in public order offences which have declined from 241 last year to 125 to date this year.
Drunk driving offences also significantly decreased in the last 12 months - with 26 detections this year compared to 40 last year.]
