Gardaí are renewing their call for witnesses following an incident in Leitrim that saw the theft of money by a man impersonating a Garda.
On the morning of the 25th of November, two men travelling in a silver Astra car approached the home of an elderly man.
One male identified himself as a member of an Garda Siochana and told the home owner that he needed to check the security in the house.
He them took a sum of money from the house and left with the other suspect in the silver car.
Local Gardaí are urging the public to be cautious when answering the door, with three main steps suggested as best practise.
Homeowners are being told to request ID from callers, talk through a window if suspicious and report any concerns to Gardaí.
Leitrim Gardaí say these simple steps can help keep you safe:
''If you're not expecting a visitor, or you're not sure who is out the door, don't engage with them if you feel any way uncomfortable, and thirdly, report suspicious persons and vehicles promptly, you can contact us on 999 or 112 for urgent action. So just to reiterate that, it's stop, check and report''
