A Roscommon Councillor believes people in the West of Ireland need the same Garda cover as inner city Dublin.

Cllr Micheal Frain has been speaking following Gardaí in Roscommon carrying out hi-visibility patrols and checkpoints across the county over the weekend as part of Operation Táirge.

It's aimed at detecting and preventing Organised Retail Crime with local Gardaí visiting business premises and providing crime prevention information.

Co. Roscommon has seen a spate of burglaries in the past month with investigations currently ongoing.

Cllr Frain was critical of the amount of new Gardaí being sent to Dublin and Southern parts of Ireland:
