Gareth Scahill's appointment as a Senator is being described as great news for West Roscommon.
The Castlerea man was selected as one of the Taoiseach's 11 nominees for the Seanad on Friday.
Roscommon-Galway was set to have no Senator after outgoing senators Aisling Dolan and Eugene Murphy lost their seats.
