Gender quota may rule local Senator out of the running for General Election

A local political analyst says a female candidate could be chosen to run alongside Dr Martin Daly in Roscommon-Galway.

Gender quota may rule Senator Eugene Murphy out of the running for Fianna Fáil in the forthcoming General Election. Fianna Fáil are currently struggling to reach the requirement of 40% female representation in constituencies nationwide. Fianna Fáil party leader and Tánaiste Micheál Martin highlighted this in an interview on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning.

A local political analyst says this may result in a female candidate being chosen to run alongside Dr Martin Daly in Roscommon-Galway. Former Roscommon Cathaoirleach Ivan Connaughton says this could be bad news for Senator Murphy, who lost out to Daly by eight votes in last night's selection convention.
