General election candidate backs calls for new psychiatric unit for Roscommon

It comes after the Roscommon Hospital Action Committee claimed the 24-bed unit in the hospital needs to be replaced.

A local general election candidate has echoed calls for a new psychiatric unit to be built at a new site in Roscommon. Ballygar GP and Fianna Fail candidate Martin Daly says the new facility says the new facility must be developed 'rapidly'. It comes after the Roscommon Hospital Action Committee claimed the 24-bed unit in the hospital needs to be replaced. The Mental Health Commission last year found the unit was not in a good state of repair, inside or outside. Valerie Byrne, a member of the HAC, says a brand new unit is now needed:

Speaking to Shannonside News this evening, Martin Daly said he fully supported calls for the new facility:
