A local general election candidate has echoed calls for a new psychiatric unit to be built at a new site in Roscommon. Ballygar GP and Fianna Fail candidate Martin Daly says the new facility says the new facility must be developed 'rapidly'. It comes after the Roscommon Hospital Action Committee claimed the 24-bed unit in the hospital needs to be replaced. The Mental Health Commission last year found the unit was not in a good state of repair, inside or outside. Valerie Byrne, a member of the HAC, says a brand new unit is now needed:
