The party chose one candidate at a selection convention last month, when Sligo-based TD Frank Feighan beat former junior minister John Perry.

The three were arrested as part of ongoing Garda investigations into recent burglaries in Co Roscommon and offences in Westmeath, Cavan, Meath, Offaly, Dublin and Kildare.

The Brideswell native said he made the decision due to the party's directive yesterday confirming it would only run one candidate in the forthcoming General Election. 

The party has confirmed it will select just one General Election candidate at its convention next Thursday.

Fine Gael hasn't had a TD elected in Roscommon since the county's accident and emergency unit was closed in 2011.

The TD says she doesn't believe the constituency would be disadvantaged if there was no Government representative.

The Ballaghaderreen woman has been a TD since 2020, when she took the third seat in the three-seat constituency.

He says he'd be interested if it's delayed until the new year, as Taoiseach Simon Harris is promising.
