Permission for the construction of battery arrays and support facilities in Leitrim has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
Brookfield Renewable Energy Ireland Ltd had applied to Leitrim County Council for the construction of battery arrays located in 16 containers, a control building and transformer at Corderry Co. Leitrim.
The plan, which included a Natura Impact Statement, was approved by county planners with 11 conditions attached.
These include a provision that works would be overseen by a competent technical professional to ensure that the Natura Impact Statement was adhered to and a developer contribution of over €15,000.
The application was subject to a number of submissions by stakeholders in the area.
Lack of public consultation, risk of fire and explosion and the environmental impact on groundwater were all issues highlighted in public statements.
The permission has now been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
The national planning body is due to make a decision on the development in May.
