Plans have been granted for the extension of a well known Athlone Coffee Shop.
MBCC Foods Ireland Ltd had sought permission to expand the Costa Coffee on the Ballymahon Road outside the town.
Plans submitted to Westmeath County Council include the construction of a new seating area to the west of the shop, external signage and internal alterations to include new toilets and an extended bin storage.

The application was the subject of a submission in opposition to the development, with the management of the neighbouring SuperValu store arguing that the expansion would intensify traffic in the shared car park, resulting in a shortage of parking spaces.
The plans have been approved by Westmeath County Council with 5 conditions attached.
