Plans have been approved for the construction of a significant battery energy storage site on the Longford/Roscommon border.
Ion Renewables Limited are seeking to construct the project at the former Atlantic Mill factory site near Tarmonbarry.
The company, which deploys energy storage, grid balancing and renewables integration services has received the go ahead for the construction at the Fisherstown Innovation Park.
The plans include the provision of forty 20 foot containers to house 36 battery racks each, 8 medium voltage transformers and 32 power inverters.
According to Longford planners, the application was inline with the Longford County Development plan with the proposed facility also next to site already granted permission for a solar farm.
The development was granted with 13 conditions attached, including a development contribution of almost €14,000 and a planning time limit of 25 years from date of commissioning.
