EirGrid have been given the go ahead to update an existing powerline in County Roscommon.
The energy company had proposed upgrading the existing Lanesboro-Sliabh Bawn 100kV overhead line which passes through townlands such as Ballyleague, Cloontuskert, Curraghroe, and Tooreeen.
The proposed development would involve works along the 9.5-kilometre line between the existing substation in Lanesboro and the Sliabh Bawn substation at Tooreen, Co Roscommon.
EirGrid have lodged a separate planning application with Longford County Council as a 0.1-kilometre section of the line passes through the county.
The company says a Natura Impact Statement will be submitted to the planning authority as part of its application.
Roscommon County Council has granted permission for the works subject to eight conditions.
