The Department of Further Education has announced the make-up of the first governing body of the new Technological University of the Shannon, Midlands , Midwest.
The new university follows the granting of Technological university status to Athlone and Limerick Institutes of Technology earlier this year.
It's set to formally open its doors on this Friday the 1st of October.
Limerick woman Josephine Feehily has been appointed as Chair of the body.
She's previously served as chair of both the Revenue Commissioners and the Policing Authority.
The CEO and Chair of the Board of Ericcson in Ireland Mr John Griffin will be an external member of the body, as will Collette Ryan who has over 30 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
George O' Callaghan who's Chief Executive of the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board has been nominated as a member by all three Education and Training Boards in whose areas the campuses are located.
This first body is charged with establishing and implementing the election and appointment procedures to fill the remaining posts over the next six months.
The new university will involve more than 15,000 students and 1,200 staff across the midlands and midwest.
The towns of Athlone, Clonmel, Ennis and Thurles will also become university towns for the first time on October 1st.
