The Government has not approved and do not currently support the development of modular refugee housing in a Westmeath village. Up to 18 modular homes were delivered to Coole Village at 4am with HGVs blocking a local road in the area for several hours. Local reports suggest the delivery is connected to plans to create accommodation for up to 100 asylum seekers on site.
Enterprise Minister and Local TD Peter Burke has confirmed that no approval, planning permission or contract has been made with the land owner. Speaking to Shannonside FM, the Fine Gael Minister said an enforcement notice has now been issued to the owner and confirmed that no International Protection applicants will be located on site.
