A Roscommon TD says rural communities which open their arms to refugees must be supported by Government.
Raising the issue in the Dail this week Claire Kerrane called for a cross-departmental approach particularly in terms of health and education.
She says for example in Ballaghaderreen the HSE must look at the fact that the GPs are running long waiting lists.
Deputy Kerrane believes the frustration and tension felt by some communities can be avoided if communities get the resources they need.
The Sinn Fein representative says Government are letting communities down:
'It's very obvious this has been left at the foot off one department. That is not good enough, and it is not possible for one department to take on.
We're seeing huge increasing in population, all of government need to play a role here right across the board. Every department needs to be looking at what can we do to increase the resources and to support this increase in rural communities.
Unfortunately to date, that is not happening and it's rural communities that are facing the consequences. It's building frustration in areas that is totally avoidable.'
