Plans which will see the introduction of a gambling regulator will go before cabinet ministers this morning.
It's expected the body will start their work as soon as the bill is enacted.
One of the main roles of this new body will be to look at the impact technology has had on the gambling industry. The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland will do this by regulating advertising, gambling websites and apps.
A major focus will also be put on public wellbeing, in both online and face-to-face gambling. The Gambling Regulation Bill will also provide for a new approach to the licensing of gambling in Ireland. The regulator is expected to begin its work in 2023 - once this bill is approved and enacted. A CEO of the body has been appointed ahead of the legislation being passed by the Oireachtas.
