A major revamp of licencing laws is expected in the coming years.

Plans are being developed by the government that could see clubs, pubs and off-licenses trading into the night.

A report from the night-time economy taskforce is being examined by senior ministers today, which recommends a total revamp to Ireland's licensing laws.

This report from the Night Time Economy Taskforce includes a number of actions like using empty buildings for events, recognising the electronic music sector as an integral part of the sector and extending opening hours for pubs and clubs.

But Eunan McKinney from Alcohol Action Ireland says proposed legislation flies in the face of the Public Health (Alcohol) Act.

But for Give Us The Night's Robbie Kitt, late-night activities aren’t always associated with alcohol.

CEO of the Licensed Vintners Association Donall O’Keeffe says retaining staff for late shifts is their biggest challenge.

If granted permission Junior Minister Hildegarde Naughton will be tasked with of drafting the sale of alcohol bill.
