The call from the Construction Industry Federation comes following a warning from the National Competitiveness and Productivity Council that the housing market is currently inhibiting the performance of Ireland's competitiveness.

The government has been urged to fast track investment in infrastructure in order for housing targets to be met.

In its latest analysis the NCPC said housing affordability is a significant concern for Ireland.
Director General of the CIF Hubert Fitzpatrick said putting in place infrastructure in a speedy manner will accelerate development of new homes.
