The Government's Road Traffic Bill has not gone far enough according to a local Sinn Fein TD. Martin Kenny is the opposition party's spokesperson on Transport and is highlighting Sinn Fein's disappointment with the new legislation. The new law's, which will now be forwarded to the President for signing, aims to reduce speed limits, reform penalty points, and have mandatory drug testing at the scene of serious crashes.

However, Sligo Leitrim TD says the legislation has not adequately ensured increased levels of Garda roads policing, with Sinn Fein amendments to the bill ignored by government according to Deputy Kenny. The party's transport spokesperson says that speed vans cannot replace the effectiveness of Gardaí when it comes to roads policing:
