Turlough McGovern has been appointed as the new Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council.
The Granard native was elected to the position at today's Annual General Meeting of the council.
He has taken over the role from Fine Gael's Peggy Nolan.

Longford Municipal District's Gerry Hagan has also been appointed Leas Cathaoirleach of the council.
