A Longford councillor is appealing to other men not to ignore health issues as he recovers after a recent health scare.
Fianna Fail councillor PJ Reilly from Granard says he hadn't thought much about a headache which had started bothering him for the first couple of days, and only realised when he was admitted to hospital that he had actually had a brain haemorrhage.
Speaking at yesterday's Annual General Meeting of Granard Municipal District the long serving councillor said he felt very fortunate to be able to attend his final meeting as Chairman given his recent health concerns.
Paying tribute to the care which he received at Cavan General hospital, Councillor Reilly said doctors had told him he was lucky to have survived the incident without having suffered serious side effects.
He says he wants to warn other men about the very real dangers of ignoring what might appear to be a small health issue.
