A residents group in Granard is congratulating Longford County Council on its decision to refuse planning permission for a wind turbine in the area.
Local company Kiernan Milling applied for permission several weeks ago to erect an industrial wind tribune on their site as part of an ongoing expansion plan.
Some residents in the area said the 169 metre turbine that was proposed would impact negatively on the historic Granard motte and Viking heritage project which is being developed at a cost of millions.
Fáilte Ireland also added its voice to the opposition and said the structure shouldn't be allowed to go ahead.
Patrick McGivney from the residents group says they realise the councils refusal may not be the end of the issue, but they're very happy the local authority has taken this decision.
