St. Mary’s Granard caused a small upset in the second round of games in the Longford senior football championship as they downed Abbeylara 1-12 to 1-6 in their group four encounter.
The victory means Granard now progress to the quarter-final stage and Abbeylara will need to beat Dromard next weekend to take second place.
It had looked like going to form at the break as Abbeylara led 1-3 to five points their goal coming from Cian Brady on 14 minutes.
But Granard rallied and Liam Sullivan’s 40th minute goal moved them three points clear 1-7 to 1-4 with Abbeylara adding just two further points as Granard recorded a surprise victory.
