Leitrim County Council has approved an application to change an existing vehicle recycling yard into a renewable energy pellet manufacturing facility.
An Authorized Treatment Facility for recovery of end of life vehicles at Kiltoghert near Carrick on Shannon has received permission to be replaced by a biomass renewable energy processing centre.
Desmond Rooney made the application in September of last year for the Leitrim Auto Recyclers site to be presupposed into the production of wood pellets.
The new facility would include a 2 bay shed attached to the existing shed to be used for the intake and drying process of Biomass such as wood and straw.
Plans also call for the existing shed to be used for pellet production, with a two-bay shed used for the storage of the finished product.
Works on the site would include the demolition and removal of the existing bunded oil area.
The plans have been granted by Leitrim County Council with 20 conditions attached.
