Plans have been approved for the restoration and expansion of the old post office building in Ardagh.
The protected structure in the Longford Village was built in 1863 and was a former estate worker's house.
Plans were submitted by Stephen Keegan for the subdivision of the former post office, the construction of a single story extension and internal rearrangements to form two separate units.
The development also seeks the partial demolition of a shed to provide onsite parking for two spaces, solar panel installation and the replacement of front windows with original lattice iron windows & timber surround.
Longford Planners have approved the application with 7 conditions attached.
They include rulings that both the Planning Authority and the Heritage Office shall be liaised with, and that external finishes should be compatible with the historic character of the building.
