Longford councillor PJ Reilly is welcoming news this week that work on a major revamp of houses at St Colmcille Terrace is to begin in the next couple of months.
Longford County Council approved the transfer of 19 local authority homes in the estate to social housing association Tuath in October of last year.
Some of the houses involved were built in the 40's and are in very poor condition in terms of insulation.
The regeneration scheme is expected to cost just under €5 million euro and the project had first been announced in 2018.
Councillor Reilly says the residents have had a long wait for these works and deserve to see fast progress being made now.
He says he understands the agency will tackle the vacant houses first and make them ready for other local residents.
'There is 19 houses unoccupied for the last number of years, and then there is the houses that they will be starting work on first.
Then they maybe moving some of the residents into when they are complete before working on the houses they moved out of.
It's going to take some time.'
