The Department of Education has completed a preliminary assessment of a site for a new building for the Convent secondary school in Longford.
Longford Westmeath TD Joe Flaherty says this means that plans for a new campus on a Greenfield site will now progress over the coming months.
It comes with the approval of five new classrooms for the secondary school, which be located in the former Turners building.
The school is at full capacity breaching the 600 student marker this September.
