A well known local dairy plant has received the go ahead to construct a solar array at their Roscommon factory.
Aurivo Dairy Ingredients in Ballaghaderreen has been operating for over 50 years on the Dublin Road outside the town.
The company had applied to Roscommon County Councils to construct ground mounted solar panels across a 5.7 hectare site close to the factory.
The photovoltaic panels are sought to supply renewable electricity directly to the companies dairy processing facility.
County planners granted the application with 20 conditions attached.
These included the requirement of a glint and glare assessment of the development, detailed landscaping requirements and a rule that any temporary structures or services used in the construction of the array, be removed within 6 months.
Separately at the Ballaghaderreen Factory, management have applied to construct a shed to relocate the existing CIP and wash facility in order to provide safer truck flow at the plant.
A decision will be made on those plans in June.
